Slip-slidin' away.... Ice Skating in Bansko

The view of the Pirin Mountains as a backdrop, the sound of sweet music, the laughter of children and an aura of fun and excitement - this is a day skating in Bansko. 

Skating is becoming yet another popular activity in Bansko.  In the newly - built ice rink or at one of the private ones at some of the hotels, sliding along the ice is a great activity for families as well as for those whom the thrill of skiing is not so appealing. 

Keeping up with the rest of the country

With a brand new ice rink completed in the summer, skating in Bansko just got that much better.  The new ice-rink is Bansko comes on the heels of similar arenas opened in Sofia and other parts of Bulgaria.  Not to ever be outdone by other regions of the country, officials in Bansko knew that they too would need a facility of this kind.  But bigger and better. So they set out to accomplish this goal with the same determination as with any other development the town.

Bansko development - a cut above

Completed this last summer, it is no surprise that the 1200 square metre rink is one of the best of its kind in Bulgaria.  It is a great place to learn to skate or to train and become even better.  Professional trainers are on-hand to give tips or provide private lessons.

The rink, at the foot of the mountains is, according to Bansko's mayor, the first step in the development of a 5000 seat world-class sports complex which will include a hockey arena, basketball and volleyball courts and field hockey pitches and playing fields.
